New Shredder by Dutch Firm Set to Improve Metal Recycling Capacity in Sheffield
06 January 2012 - Netherlands company Van Dalen Metals Recycling and Trading is investing £6 million to build a shredder at its Sheffield headquarters, which will boost its productivity as a metal recycling centre by significantly increasing operating capacity.
The new shredder will be opened in early 2012.
A new non-ferrous facility is also planned at the site, along with an expansion of its facilities in the south east and the creation of new roles in operations and purchasing.
Van Dalen, who have been in business for approximately 65 years and maintain 17 sites based in the UK and Northern Europe, are following a successful 2011 which saw an increase in total capacity to 500,000 metric tonnes annually.
This is a figure that the company is hoping to double across the coming three years, with the help of the new shredder and further operational investments.
Tom Bird, Van Dalen UK’s Managing Director, commented on the new development: “Although market conditions have been challenging, we’ve had a really positive 12 months. Going forward, the shredder will transform our Sheffield facility, making it a state-of-the-art metal recycling centre.”
